Fourth of July event?
Hello to those who read this-
I was just curious if Arenanet had an event of any sort for the Fourth of July weekend in the past, and possibly in the furture. And I mean something more than just double GvG points; something on the order of St. Patricks day or Easter (I figure something on the order of Halloween or Wintersday is pushing it ). I was going to suggest in the Sanitarium that they have one, but I vaugly remember that there might have been some sort of event. At the time I was more concerned with neighbors burning down our house with fireworks than GW events, however.... Anyway, thought I would ask here instead of posting a post that didn't need posting in Sardelac. |

4th of July is only an American holiday, won't mean much for anyone else.

Anet prefers to do international holiday events eg. Wintersday, Halloween and Easter which are celebrated in many different countries. I wouldnt think they would do a Independance Day event.

Last year the June 30 - July 5 period (which was a long weekend) was spent by the GW players at the Canthan Dragon Festival.
This year there is no long holiday weekend, as the holiday comes on Wednesday.

Great. Another Ego-centric redneck American who thinks it's the only country that can play GW because they nuked all the rest.

Go Yan!
On topic, no, I doubt there'll be a 4th of July event, GW is an international game, and has events that are celebrated worldwide. Unless we also get a Guy Fawkes Night event too... |

I would draw an analogy with St. Patrick's day. Perhaps we'll get some firecracker drops. Should work, as they could reuse the canthan new year items.

Oh please. No 4th of July. That means Jack to me, and we're already so bloated by boring, lag inducing festivals as it is...

on topic: no thanks, seems pretty useless, and ego-centric why not just have every country's national day be reason for special event, that way we'll have a reason to celebrate and get useless drops everyday |

There go those sweeping generalizations again... nice.
Granted, most of us Americans don't have as much 'world view' as Europeans. (lots of reasons) But you don't have to make this into a war. :P |

Few points:
1. Canthan New Year: A celebration of the Chinese New Year. Happened on the same date as the Chinese New Year and reflected that by having Guild Wars also enter the Year of the Pig. I don't know about you guys, but I don't celebrate Chinese New Year.(no offense to people who do, just an example) Not everyone who plays is Chinese just like not everyone is American. 2. St. Patrick's Day: I am 100% Irish and I "celebrate" St. Patty's Day.(A.K.A. Drinking lots of Guiness ) Seems that event was more focused to the European Servers, and not everyone is Irish just like not everyone is American. 3. Easter + Wintersday: I am Catholic and I celebrate Easter and Christmas, but not everyone is Catholic who plays this game, just like not everyone is American. 4. Halloween: Not everyone around the world celebrates Halloween, or knows what it really is for that matter. So why not have a 4th of July Holiday thing? We have already had plenty of religion-specific, race-specific, and heritage-specific holiday celebrations in the past. As a note: I am an American(obviously) and I do agree that most of the people in America are retarded when it comes to(but not limited to) the world as a whole. The world does not recognize the 4th of July. I know I've heard of it from films and such, but you couldn't ask me what it means or what it represents. It is simply far too specific. It's like me asking you all to celebrate ANZAC day. Wouldn't mean a thing... |

So, another unthinking person asks about a celebration for a holiday that is only recognized in his/her country, and right away several @$$ wipes go off on a hissy fit. Just point out the error of his/her way and move on.
Peace. |
